Course Descriptions

 

MARKETING – 6621

Credit: 1 unit

This introductory course is designed to prepare students interested in pursuing careers in marketing. The course emphasizes the foundations of business, management, and entrepreneurship. Students will explore important marketing concepts, functions, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary for marketing and management careers. Foundations and functions of marketing include distribution, financing, selling, pricing, promotion, marketing-information management, and product/ service management. Marketing simulations, projects, teamwork, DECA leadership activities, meetings, conferences, and competitions provide many opportunities for application of instructional competencies.

Recommended Grade Level: 9th and 10th

 

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING I – 6670

Credit: 1 Unit

Prerequisite: Marketing is highly recommended!

This course builds on the marketing foundations and is designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in the sports, entertainment, and event marketing industries. The course emphasizes business and economic foundations, branding, licensing, naming rights, concessions and on-site merchandising, promotion, safety and security, and human relations. Marketing simulations, projects, teamwork, DECA leadership activities, meetings, conferences, competitions, and cooperative education provide many opportunities for application of instructional competencies.

Recommended Grade Level: 10th, 11th, and 12th

 

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING II – 6671

Credit: 1 Unit

Prerequisite: Sports and Entertainment Marketing I

This course builds on foundations learned in Sports and Entertainment Marketing I and is designed for students interested in an advanced study of sports, entertainment, and event marketing. Emphasis is placed on business management, career development options, client relations, ethics, events management, facilities management, legal issues and contracts, promotion, and sponsorships. Students will be encouraged to apply their knowledge to sports and entertainment events at Pisgah and in the community. Marketing simulations, projects, teamwork, DECA leadership activities, meetings, conferences, competitions, and cooperative education provide many other opportunities for application of instructional competencies.

Recommended Grade Level: 11th and 12th
