WANTED:  Responsible, trustworthy, hardworking students.  Previous work experience not required.

What is Cooperative Education?

Cooperative education provides marketing-related work experience concurrent with academic studies.  Not only will it enrich your education, it will help you make more informed career decisions.  The program involves a cooperative effort between your employer and the school.  You will develop confidence and time management skills through participation in cooperative education.  Practical on-the-job training combined with classroom learning will better prepare you to meet the challenges of a changing technological society.

Typically, students will leave campus after 3rd period and go to work at a marketing related job, which has been approved by the Cooperative Education Coordinator.

Thinking of taking Co-op?

Here are some things you should know:

1. You must have a marketing related job to be enrolled in Co-op.  That basically means that your job must involve customer interaction and money!  For example, washing dishes at a restaurant would not allow you to interact with customers or be involved in any of the restaurant's sales transactions, so this job would NOT qualify for your enrollment in the Co-op Program.

2. Find a marketing related job BEFORE the beginning of the semester!  After the first two weeks of the semester, students without jobs will be dropped from the program.

3. If you have a job...keep it!!!  Students are expected to remain at the same training station throughout the entire semester.  Changing jobs without permission or getting fired can result in the student being dropped from the program, or even FAILURE!  Don't take any chances!

4. Co-op is not just about getting out of school early.  Students are required to maintain records of their hours and wages, attend meetings, complete related Marketing assignments, and be evaluated by your employer each six weeks.  Co-op and your Marketing course work together, so you must pass the Marketing course to be granted credit for Co-op.

5. This is real world experience!  Just as your teachers and parents expect the best from you, employers expect the best from their employees!  So, what's the difference?  When everyone else keeps telling you to "keep tying and do better next time"...your employer will use the famous words of Mr. Trump! "YOU'RE FIRED!"
