What is DECA anyway?
What do Courtney Cox and Jay Leno have in common? Where can you find more than $250,000 in scholarships? Who provides great opportunities for travel and rewards for your academic success and workplace skills? The answer to all of these questions is DECA!
DECA is an Association of Marketing Students that works with Pisgah's marketing classes to give you that edge needed to reach your dreams of success.
DECA provides awesome opportunities!
- Networking: DECA is a great way to build relationships with business leaders and thousands of other students who could play an important part in your future. There are 180,000 student members in all 50 states, not to mention Canada, Germany, Mexico, Guam and Puerto Rico! Leaders in the business community also work with DECA as judges for competitive events, guest speakers, advisory board members and sponsors for events.
- Building Your Résumé: There's nothing colleges and potential employers like better than a student with experience! DECA and marketing classes can provide you with the business and leadership skills necessary to survive in the real world. If you don't want your applications or résumé to end up in the trash can, then get involved with DECA's conference activities, workshops, community service projects, and fund–raisers for national causes such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
- Leadership and Recognition: With events for all most any interest at the local, state/provincial and international level, you can develop your research skills and business savvy in competition with judges from the business community. Who wouldn't want to come home with medals, trophies or scholarships? DECA can give you the opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills in everything from team–building group exercises to event planning; from holding office at the local, state/provincial or national level to winning an individual or team competition.
- Scholarships: How does a piece of $200,000 sound? That's right, DECA awards over $200,000 in scholarships every year! Major companies and colleges sponsor scholarship opportunities, and the more involved you are, the better your chance will be at one of the many DECA scholarships!
- Civic Pride: You can make a difference! DECA provides opportunities for you to organize and participate in small community service projects, as well as, projects to support national causes. Whether it's a local food drive or clean-up day, or a contribution to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, you can have a positive impact on your community and the world!
- Fun: Yes, DECA is FUN! Your hard work and dedication is always balanced with the reward of social events and other times to hang out and relax with other DECA members. Outdoor Movie Night? Ice Cream Socials? We can't wait to hear your ideas!
